Process

Day 1:  Finding Four Fruits
Hooray! You're having a party! Let your classmates know that they are invited to your house for a celebration of all their hard work, and let them know that you plan on feeding them something delicious. Ask each of your classmates which fruit is their favourite, and keep track of their answers on a tally sheet.

Once you have asked all of your peers which fruit they prefer the best, use your skills in mathematics to add up how many people like each fruit. Now that you have determined the total likes for each type of fruit, please make a bar-graph displaying your results.

Day 2: Cost Conundrum
Now that you know what fruits are going to be in your salad, you must find the most cost efficient way to purchase these fruits! Think of where you and your parents go shopping for groceries. How much does it cost to buy fruit? Does it depend on how much the fruit weighs?

Click here to visit the Dominon website to see how much each of your four fruits cost. Then, click here to compare their price to that of Sobey’s. Finally, click here to find out when the next Farmer’s market is happening, and to see what products they have available.

Using this spreadsheet, keep track of the cost of each fruit as well as the overall price. When you have found out the different prices for each fruit, write down the cheapest price and add all the fruit costs together to determine how much money you will have to spend.

Day 3: Collage Creation
Using clippings from magazines and flyers, create a college of the four fruits that were voted the best by your class. Using construction paper, make a cutout of a bowl, and put your collage in it so that it looks like a fruit salad. Present the collage to your classmates and, with the help of your bar graph, explain why you used those particular fruits.

Now that you have finished your fruit salad, proceed to the conclusion to see what awaits you!
